"Get rid of the Error in Android Home Screen"

With the presence of Android Source, things will move on faster than previously.

Saw some succeed story getting rid of the exception in Home Screen, wonder touch screen, application are all working well?

Have not try this my self, still at the exception Home Screen.

Will follow up closely on the progress and update here asap. :)

"Beyond The Cyclone Eye"

Again this time, we could proceed further than the RED eye loading (around > 20 minutes, depends on device configuration),
the Android Home Screen with "Application Not Responding Error" exception.

Have not forgotten to thanks folks from xda-developers for making this possible.

When observe carefully, we can see that the system is not dead ... at least the clock is still ticking.

"Android Source Release"

By the day of 21/10/2008, Google officially release the Android source codes at http://source.android.com/.

This is the greatest news the open-source community have been long awaited.

"The Red Cyclone Eye"

On top of the Kernel, some dedicated people from xda-developer managed to get as far as Android loading screen.

To test out, try following instructions below.

Steps:

  1. haret = "_haret-0.5.1.exe" (from zip file found in thread "[REF]Linwizard/ Linux running on Elf! Now what?"  (post 60 - 70) from http://forum.xda-developers.com/)
  2. kernel = "Image" (extract from MMC-android.gz found in linwizard project site)
  3. initrd = "intrd-android"
  4. startup.txt (which looks like following)

Code:
#set MTYPE 6666
set MTYPE 1229
#--- standard LinWizard Kernel ---
#set KERNEL "Image"
#--- modified LinWizard Kernel for Android ---
set KERNEL "zImage"
#set INITRD "initrd-debugfs"
set initrd "initrd-android"
set CMDLINE "root=/dev/ram0 ramdisk_size=20504 init=/linuxrc"
#set CMDLINE "root=/dev/nfs nfsroot=10.100.0.2:/nfsroot,nolock ip=10.100.0.1:10.100.0.2:10.100.0.2:255.255.255.0: 10.100.0.1:usb0"
bootlinux

"Linux Kernel 2.6 Up on Elf/Elfin"

Today we marked a milestone on porting Android over HTC Elfin device.

Thanks to the hard work of Linwizard community, Linux is up on the device.

(Linwizard community was dedicated to port Linux kernel over TI OMAP850 h/w board)

Due to the lack of keyboard support in the Elf/Elfin, one can SSH thru the USB interface to start Xserver (the GUI) in the device.

Steps:
- download linwizard 0.2.0 (unzip and copy to device)
- download "belcarra_usblan.zip" from this thread, install.
(this guide was meant for Windows XP only, for Linux case configure your USB networking accordingly)
- start haret from htc elfin
- loaded into shell, prompting for login ...
- plugin usb cable, connecting pda with notebook, Windows XP ask for driver ... driver found.
- setup new network with address 10.100.0.2/255.255.0.0 (make sure there's no other network device in your machine uses this IP range 10.x.x.x; else temporary disable it 1st)
- download "putty", login to ssh 10.100.0.1
- login as "root", no password needed (just <enter>)
- type "startx"
- the GUI will be loaded, cheers ...

"The Dark Age"
- No officially Linux source support from TI - The only way to hack Android, was to extract its' binaries from the Android SDK ver m5 at that time.
